IMS (Innovation Management System) is a management system designed to foster innovation within existing organizations. The international certification standard ISO 56001, which outlines organizational frameworks to help companies efficiently generate innovation, was issued in September 2024.

Japan Innovation Network (JIN), which promotes IMS as a deliberative body for ISO 56001, has been organizing the “IMS SUMMIT” annually since 2019 with the goal of accelerating systematic innovation in Japanese companies and enhancing Japan’s competitiveness. In 2024, the summit was expanded globally and held in collaboration with The International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM), an international organization for innovation management professionals, and the IMS Network.

Director Yoichi Oshima delivered a lecture and served as the facilitator for a panel discussion in the session on accelerating systematic innovation through innovation ecosystems. In his lecture, titled “The Potential of Innovation Ecosystems,” he systematically explained how to create innovation ecosystems, drawing on research findings from Sweden. During the panel discussion, Professor Akimitsu Hirota of Kinki University and Naoki Ichihashi of NTT West Japan joined as panelists. They engaged in a discussion on the theme “The Future of Ecosystems for Systematic Innovation,” where they shared their successful experiences and explored the development of innovation ecosystems. Finally, the session was wrapped up with an introduction to “IM Lab,” a consortium-type program aimed at promoting innovation ecosystems.
