Knowledge Strategy Blueprint: Charting the Future of Open and Close Led by Universities
At the 1st International Open and Close Strategy Symposium held last year, we confirmed the critical importance of the “Open and Close Strategy”—the flexible application of strategies to “openly” share technology and knowledge, and strategies to “closely” utilize them—in order to connect the outcomes of university basic research to societal implementation.
This year’s symposium will particularly focus on the “Planning and Design Function for Open and Close Strategy” required of universities, and we will deepen the discussion on the university’s capability to take the lead in formulating and communicating the utilization policy for its intellectual assets. The question posed to universities is not merely about collaboration with industry, but about how they will open their knowledge to society, protect it, and connect it. Furthermore, to redefine the role universities must play within the international innovation ecosystem, we will explore how strategy construction should be based on a “global perspective.” In an era where the circulation of knowledge is accelerating across borders, universities are expected to lead new collaborations and value creation through dialogue with the world. This symposium aims to gather insights from the perspectives of universities, industry, and policy authorities to create a platform for co-creation toward future-oriented strategy construction.
